Eulalia Flower Festival (Seoul Silver Grass Festival)

Sunset at the background of Eulalia Flower

Have I told you that Seoul has specifically gorgeous sunset? Especially on Autumn, when the sky at its brightest blue. Then picturing it as a background of land of silver grass. The wind was blowing softly, you can feel the crisp of the air and then that's the moment when you really blend with the nature.

There are numerous ways to enjoy sunset in Seoul, Eulalia Flower Festival is something else. Located near to World cup Stadium in Mapo, Eulalia field located in one of several parks, namely Haneul Park.

Haneul Park itself located at top of the hill, therefore to go there, it will need some effort to climb the hill. But, if you are patient with long queue, there are shuttle buggy car cost KRW 2,000 that will take you to the top of the hill.

Silver Grass Field and its crowd

Ah, to go there via public transport is easy, take line number 6  and get off at World Cup Stadium Station and take exit number 1. Just across the exit, there is a bridge and a bus stop for bus number Mapo 08 and 8777. Both bus can take you to the entrance area of haneul park, but the different is the walking distance between both. Or you can take bus number 172 and get off at Danji Nanjicheon Park Bus stop.

From the entrance to the top of the hill, it takes 1.9 kilometers walking distance. There are three different walking path to go there, first climbing full stairs (but closed when the going down-crowd higher than going up), then half climbing -which longer route about 900 m of climbing, and longest route about 1.4 km.

I chose the second path and surprisingly not extreme. Along the path, we can stop to enjoy Seoul scenery from the wooden fence.

Since it is famous festival, you will expect large number of crowds in there. Mostly will be local people and few foreigners. There are many couples in there that ready to take many instagram-able pictures.

I arrived there at 5-ish, that took 1 hour and half for me to reach the hills from Seoul.

My first view is the land of beautiful flowers that I don't know the name (sorry).
big number of this flower (is that chryssantium? I guess not)

so Colorful

Then of course, the main star is the Eulalia or Siver Grass.

The silver Grass...like the tall version of Paddy
The amazing thing about the festivals, no matter how big the crowds you met, you always find quiet spot to take your own picture. And since I am too mesmerized by the beauty of sunset, I was busy to take sunset shadow behind the grass.

See the sky at the background, not me!

Long time ago, this World Cup Park was established on Nanjido that means island of abundant orchids and gromwells, Unfortunately, the park was used as a landfill until 1993. However at 1996, the restoration project was started and tranformed the smelly place into one of beautiful landmark of Seoul.

The Eulalia Flower Festivals is started on October when the flowers fully bloom. During the festival, the park is opened until 10.00 pm. Helped by the great lighting from the ground, this eulalia land is lit beautifully and additionally, visitors would love to enjoy night view of hangang river.

night view of hangang river (sorry didn't bring tripod so hard to take steady one)

I spent only 2.5 hours in this park because the night gets colder. At the top of the hill, there are restrooms and stall selling beverages but i didn't see any restaurant in there. So better, prepare your picnic meal by your self while enjoying the sunset infront of your eyes.

Overall, the hiking part is worth every picture taken at the top, and the beautiful sunset. Truthfully,  I am amazed again how Seoul can transform a wasteland into one of major festival that attract (I reckon) hundred thousands of visitor..per day.
