Reasons why we love Santorini

Beautiful Doors in Santorini
The beauty of Santorini is so popular and already proven in internet.  A litlle village in the caldera, surrounded with blue sea where houses paint in white and blue colors, arranged in neat alley, and the anciety made Santorini one of the beautiful island in the World.

Right after we see the pictures of Santorini (also advertised in iphone 6 billboard-with different purpose), I don't hesitate to put Santorini in my bucket list.

When we arrived there, after one hour flight from Athens, and half an hour car ride from the airport, my endorphins was pumped excitedly and finally we know why this island awarded as the most beautiful island in the world.

Here are the reasons:

1. Sea on the Terrace

the Aegean Sea
We rent villa in Genesis Cave House in Oia where we can see almost everything of Oia in our terrace. The caldera, the sea, famous blue dome churches and very near to the sunset point. The price is fine and worth every penny.

As we can see, the blue aegean sea meet the blue sky is one of the reason why tourist flocks in here especially in summer. It may be many people dreams to have a villa where we can see sea just few steps from bedroom.

2.  White City on the shoulder of Caldera
Oia

Beside the sea, the caldera is one of the unique thing in Oia, Santorini. Oia extends for almost 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) along the northern edge of the caldera that forms the island of Santorini, at a height of between 70 and 100 metres (230 and 330 ft) above sea level.

3.  The traditional Cave House

Beautiful Cave house just like house miniature for your barbies!

The traditional architecture of Santorini is similar to that of the other Cyclades, with low-lying cubical houses, made of local stone and whitewashed or limewashed with various volcanic ashes used as colours. The unique characteristic is the common utilisation of the hypóskapha: extensions of houses dug sideways or downwards into the surrounding pumice. These rooms are prized because of the high insulation provided by the air-filled pumice, and are used as living quarters of unique coolness in the summer and warmth in the winter (just like traditional hanok village in Korea!)  (source: Wikipedia)

4. The famous Blue Dome church

The Blue Dome church may be one of the most famous icon in Oia. Located near to the Sunset point, we can see it by looking for the west side.

5. Sunset in your eyes while enjoying snacks or drinks

Sunset covered in cloud yet still magnificent

Whether you love sunrise over sunset, seeing sunset when in Oia is one of must activity. while we were in there, the sky is cloudy therefore we can see the beautiful sunsets. Somehow, while enjoying the afternoon, our eyes still awed and dragged to this nature's daily activity.

Try to come several minutes earlier to the sunset point because the crowds are quite lot so you won't miss the best spot to prepare your camera.

6. Cobbled stone or Marble streets, both are beautiful.

Paths in Oia
On the village, people can explore every path of the street to find the best view of this island. Streets in there mean small alley with steep stairs. Don't hesitate to just walk everywhere in there. Several paths are private area and usually there are signage to inform you that you cannot tresspass the path. but mostly, even the smallest alley can be accessed by public.

7.  Even in spring, the island is still beautiful with blooming flowers

Wild Flowers in Oia
We arrived there on March and i think it is one of the best time to visit the island if you hate crowds in touristy areas. The path is almost empty and the lodging fare aren't skyrocketting. You can act like local persons when you visit the island in low season by cooking your own meal. There are severals mini market at the main street which sell main ingredients.

In the low seasons, several restaurants are not open and still undermaintenanced. But don't worry, there is also few restaurants open at dinner time.

8. The famous Windmill
Twin Windmills at west side

Just like blue dome church in Oia, the twin windmills is also one of most picturesque object in Oia

9.  Even Random Buildings that still underconstructions, still beautiful!

Thanks God, we live in era when we don't need film rolls to capture photos so there is no more reason to be worry to take thousands pictures of every corner of Santorini!

10. Even Cats in Santorini are cute and handsome

Cat-cat-cat
Several times, we spotted animals in the narrow pathway of Oia. From cat to dog, these animals are surprisingly friendly and beautiful. They don't afraid of humans and dare to get close with humans.

Also, dogs in Oia are not dangerous at all. They will follow every human who brings plastic packages and ask for just water or your food. Don't be afraid with them, sometimes they do that just out of hunger or thirsty.

Well, of course there are other reasons why tourists love this island that we didn't have time to explored. Just tell me your experience while in there in comments sections!

Thank you and see you at the next posts!
